West Ham went down to Brentford in the Premier League in a 2-0 defeat to Brentford, as the Hammers went down to their fourth straight defeat at home.

Goals from Igor Thiago and Mathias Jensen secured a victory for Brentford as they moved up to 14th in the League with 10 points from 8 matches.

West Ham had lost all three of their home games this season, while Brentford had been defeated in all three of their away fixtures. However, the visitors dominated from the start at the London Stadium.

Igor Thiago and Kevin Schade both missed good chances before Thiago finally broke the deadlock two minutes before halftime. The Hammers’ defense struggled with a long ball, allowing Schade to square it to Thiago, who scored. Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola managed to get a hand to the shot but couldn’t prevent it from crossing the line.

Some West Ham fans boycotted the game in protest of what they perceive as mismanagement by the club’s owners, resulting in more empty seats than usual at the former Olympic stadium, which became the club’s home in 2016 after moving from Upton Park.

The fans who stayed away missed little, as the home side was second best throughout, facing a team that had 22 shots on goal compared to West Ham’s seven.

Despite their dominance, Brentford only added a second goal in the 94th minute. Another long ball confused the West Ham defense, and Keane Lewis-Potter cut back for Mathias Jensen to score.

“It probably could’ve been more," said Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard. “We created a lot of chances and had a lot of set pieces, but we’re happy to get the three points."

The result leaves Nuno Espirito Santo’s team in 19th place with four points from eight games and the worst goal difference in the league.
