Mild tension prevailed in Adilabad town on Wednesday when a group of BRS cadre attempted to lay siege to the residence of Adilabad MP Godam Nagesh in protest against what they called the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI)’s restriction of procuring only seven quintals of cotton per acre from individual farmers.
The situation turned tense after the protesters made a vain attempt to enter into MP’s residence to register their protest against the alleged cap. Police whisked away the protesters and shifted them to the nearby police station.
Former Minister Jogu Ramanna, who led the protest, alleged that the CCI’s restrictions on paddy procurement would exacerbate the woes of cotton farmers already hit by recent spell of heavy rains.
He demanded that the “restrictions” and “moisture content norms” be lifted immediately.
