The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has blamed the Telangana Police for its failure to unearth a drugs racket following their Maharashtra counterparts’ action of lying in wait for long before seizing the huge drugs cache worth about ₹12,000 crore at Cherlapally.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, BRS general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar said it was the second largest drugs haul in the country after the ₹21,000 crore worth drugs seized in a port in Gujarat in the past. He expressed concern over the haul of large quantities of mephedrone and ephedrine in a pharma company here.

The Maharashtra police had laid in wait and unearthed the drug-making racket being run for the last four months and found that it was being supplied to other countries too, while the Telangana Police was caught in a deep slumber. He blamed the police department for its failure despite Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy holding the Home portfolio.

On Teachers’ Day the Chief Minister stated that he had kept the Education portfolio with himself to improve it but he did not react to the rave parties held on the campus of Mahindra University since he was holding the Home portfolio too. He stated that the drugs which were made only in countries such as Mexico, Columbia, USA were being made in Telangana now. Stating that Telangana was now facing danger of becoming another Punjab in drugs trade, the former IPS officer said the drug cases in the State had increased by 470% in 2024 with drugs worth ₹210.49 crore seized and 5,258 persons arrested, including 18 foreigners.
