Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former minister T. Harish Rao has criticised the State government for arresting farmers in Kamareddy district for raising their voice seeking supply of urea.

In a statement, Mr. Rao said on Saturday that the Congress government had made the farmers leave their farm fields and wait at the police stations awaiting their release after their arrest in foisted cases. The farmers are being arrested for demanding supply of urea, and instead of addressing their problem and supplying urea, the government is lodging them in jails/police stations, he alleged.

He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is experiencing vicarious pleasure by putting farmers in jails/police stations for demanding urea bags. The entire Telangana society is watching the Chief Minister’s actions against the farming community for his government’s inability to supply urea, he said.

Meanwhile, speaking at Morthad in Nizamabad district, another former minister, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, said the Congress government is unmoved by the plight of the farmers. He observed that the Congress party had brought back the pre-2014 conditions in the State, as promised by it before the elections, with the farmers made to wait in long queues. He alleged that the Congress had not realised ‘rythu rajyam’, but it had brought back the days of betrayal.

Mr. Reddy said the maize crop is reaching harvesting stage in some areas without getting application of one dose of urea, paddy was not getting the application of the soil nutrient (nitrogen in the form of urea), and one dose of urea and potash mix application is also due for turmeric crop in the area, he said.
