The last rites of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Jubilee Hills, Maganti Gopinath, were held on Sunday afternoon with full State honours.
Mr. Gopinath, 62, passed away early on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital. He is survived by wife M. Sunitha and three children. He was admitted to the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest in his residence on June 5. He was suffering from kidney-related ailments for the last few years and was admitted to the same hospital three months back to undergo dialysis.
He was elected to the Telangana Assembly three consecutive times in 2014, 2018 and 2023. In 2014, he was elected on TDP ticket but switched over to BRS (then TRS) later. He was elected on BRS ticket in 2018 and 2023.
He began his political career with TDP and worked as the Telugu Yuvatha president from 1985 to 92 and was made a Director of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA – now HMDA) in 1987-88. From 1988 to 93, he was the Consumer Forum president and Hyderabad district president of TDP.
After joining BRS, he was made the party’s city unit president in 2022. He was born on June 2, 1963, to M. Krishnamurthy and Mahananda Kumari in Hyderabad. He was also film producer.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Union Minister of Coal G. Kishan Reddy, and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud were among a large number of leaders who offered their condolences to the late MLA.
KCR, along with several senior leaders of BRS, went to his residence at Jubilee Hills to pay floral tributes. Mr. Rao got emotional while paying tributes and consoled the family members.
