The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) is planning to rent out its prime properties in Kozhikode and Wayanad districts as part of efforts to generate additional revenue, with many of them lying vacant for years. Advertisements to this effect have already been issued, mainly targeting public sector institutions, scheduled banks, international agencies, and private enterprises with an annual turnover above ₹5 crore. While public sector enterprises can avail the facilities directly, private enterprises will have to go through a tender process.
Rents have been fixed based on the area and location of each building. Properties are available at Mananchira, Vellayil, Kozhikode Beach, West Hill, Feroke, Chevayur, Malapparamba, Mukkam, Thamarassery, Thiruvambadi, Chombala, Thiruvallur, Nadapuram, Naduvannur, and Sulthan Bathery, with floor areas ranging from 1,500 sq ft to 12,150 sq ft.
BSNL has undergone a major downsizing following the transition from copper cables to fibre optic cables, leaving several of its buildings unused.
