Renowned scholar of Pali and Sanskrit, Mahesh Deokar emphasised that Buddhism is not just a religion, but a way of life that offers a transformative path to equality, compassion, and righteousness.
Speaking at the Dhamma Vijaya celebrations held at Buddhavanam, Nagarjunasagar on Tuesday, Prof. Deokar highlighted the historical significance of Dhamma Vijaya, marking the day Emperor Ashoka embraced Buddhism, and later inspired Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to adopt its teachings.
During the event, Deokar urged for the establishment of an educational centre at Buddhavanam to propagate Buddha’s teachings. Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor, Altaf Hussain, described Buddhavanam as a future landmark for Telangana and a global hub for peace and Dhamma studies. He assured that efforts would be made towards introducing certification programs in Buddhist education.

Secretary of Hyderabad Reddy Women’s College, Mutyam Reddy, echoed the need for a government-supported Buddhist study centre.
Special Officer Mallepalli Laxmaiah, who presided over the event, traced the journey of Buddha Dhamma into Telangana and announced ongoing efforts to develop a digital museum at Buddhavanam.
