Buffalo Sabres defenseman and team captain Rasmus Dahlin revealed on Friday that his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, suffered a major heart failure this summer and required a heart transplant. In a letter posted by the Sabres, Dahlin and Matovac stated that she is improving and requested continued privacy moving forward.
He stated in the letter, “While Carolina is still working through her rehab to return to be with me in Buffalo, she has demonstrated an incredible determination, spirit, positivity, and resilience that I am in awe of,” the letter read. “This has undoubtedly been the most challenging chapter of our lives; however, it is something that we have learned so much from. We are truly blessed in so many ways and fully realize how fortunate we are.”
