Real social change can be achieved only when we respond to the pain, inequality, and injustice in society. The creation of a “new human being” sensitive to such issues is the mission of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), said Sourav Ghosh, president of the AIDSO Central Council.

He was inaugurating the State-level study camp for AIDSO activists organised by the Karnataka State Committee of the organisation at Balija Bhavan in Ballari on Saturday, under the theme “Save Education, Save Culture, Save Humanity.”

Mr. Ghosh lauded the Karnataka unit of AIDSO for mobilising a historic movement to save government schools by collecting 50 lakh signatures and for leading several struggles on education-related issues.

“In the history of society, no civilisation has grown without organisation. Just as family, village, and community structures shaped civilisation, AIDSO is organising students not only to fight against educational problems but also to bring about basic social change for creating a new human being,” he said, calling upon activists to commit themselves to this mission.

He stressed that each AIDSO member must undergo an inner struggle to become a true human being and inspire friends and peers to uphold values of justice and equality. “Society is always marked by struggles between truth and falsehood, justice and injustice, the oppressed and the exploiters. Only those who stand with truth, justice, and the oppressed can become true human beings,” he said.

Criticising the current capitalist system for promoting selfishness and individual success, Mr. Ghosh said: “No one has ever earned greatness by living only for themselves. It was only on the path of struggle that leaders like Jyotirao Phule, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Bhagat Singh, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose achieved greatness.”

He added that oppression and inequality still exist, and real change is possible only through right thinking and strong organisation.

Drawing inspiration from the revolutionary Marxist thinker Shivdas Ghosh, he urged students to strengthen the organisation with correct ideological foundations.

As part of the two-day camp, SUCI(C) State secretary K. Uma delivered a lecture on the democratic and secular values in the works of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, including his famous story Mahesh.

Earlier, State treasurer Subash spoke in the introductory session. The programme was presided over by State vice-president Apoorva C.M. State president Ashwini K.S., State secretary Ajay Kamath, vice-presidents Abhay Diwakar, Hanumanthu and Chandrakala, and office secretary Mahantesh Beelur were present. Hundreds of activists from various districts across Karnataka are attending the camp.
