In a sharp response to Trump’s claims, Iranian state media also used a Persian proverb to dismiss Trump’s remarks, saying: “The camel dreams of cottonseed; sometimes gulping it down, sometimes eating it grain by grain!" — suggesting the US president’s claims were unrealistic and premature.

Trump Claims Deal ‘Very Close’

The reaction comes after Trump said the United States and Iran were “very close" to reaching a peace agreement after weeks of conflict. Speaking to reporters at the White House, he said Tehran had agreed to hand over its stockpile of enriched uranium, a key issue in the talks.

“They’ve agreed to give us back the nuclear dust," Trump said, referring to enriched uranium, adding that Iran had “agreed to almost everything." He also indicated he could travel to Pakistan if a deal is finalised there.

Talks Yet To See Breakthrough

Despite the optimism from Washington, recent talks between US and Iranian officials in Islamabad did not result in a breakthrough. A delegation led by Vice President JD Vance held discussions with Iranian representatives, but both sides are yet to announce concrete progress.

The White House has said it is exploring the possibility of another round of talks, likely to be held again in Pakistan, which has played a role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.

The remarks from Iran’s state media signal continued skepticism within Tehran over US claims of progress. While Trump has repeatedly suggested that a deal is close, Iranian responses indicate that key differences remain unresolved.
