Bulldozer action was taken at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University in Uttar Pradesh after officials found illegal construction on encroached government land. A structure built for an animal husbandry laboratory on land listed as Gata 7.19 (kha) was demolished after a land survey confirmed the encroachment. The move came days after police carried out a lathicharge on protesting students inside the campus, injuring several members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
The demolition was launched in response to alleged illegal construction and land encroachment by the university. The action followed a confrontation earlier in the week between students and university authorities, during which several ABVP workers were reportedly seriously injured. The incident led to widespread protests and anger among student groups across the state.
Following a land survey and notices issued by the revenue department, officials reached the university campus under administrative supervision. Considering the tense situation, the demolition began around 4.30 pm. Bulldozers removed several unauthorised structures and encroachments inside the campus.
The animal husbandry laboratory facility, reportedly equipped with heavy air conditioners, was said to be intended for housing foreign breed dogs. In addition to the animal house, the administration also took action against several other large warehouses and illegal structures on encroached land within the university campus.
