Four members of a gang involved in a burglary were arrested during a joint operation by the Narayanguda police and the East Zone Task Force on Monday (June 16). The police recovered 158 tolas of gold jewellery, ₹10.75 lakh in cash, and eight luxury watches, all valued at an estimated at ₹1.7 crore.
Chaupal Sagar Kumar, 22, Akash Kumar Mandal, 19, Saqlain Khan, 19 and Chandra Shekar Chaupal, 49, were arrested by the police near Kummarwadi, Asifnagar when they were allegedly preparing to flee the city. The police said that three accused, identified as Ashish, Ashwini Rachu, and Shalini Rachu, remain at large.
On the intervening night of June 5 and 6, the gang broke into a house in Avanthinagar, Basheerbagh by dismantling a window grill when the residents were not at home. Following a complaint by Nukala Rama Krishna, a businessman, stating that gold ornaments weighing around 173 tolas, luxury watches, and cash amounting to ₹17.5 lakh were stolen from a safety locker in his home. A joint operation with the help of CCTV footage and technology-led surveillance helped trace the suspects to Asifnagar, where four of them were detained.
Investigation revealed that the prime accused, Sagar, plotted the burglary after identifying the target through his mother-in-law, who worked as a maid in the victim’s house. He conspired with five others, including his wife and sister-in-law, both of whom are currently absconding. Chandra was identified as the key receiver of the stolen property.
