 3 injured, 7 held after stone-pelting during Hanuman Chalisa recitation

Hanuman Chalisa recitation was disrupted by stone-pelting, injuring at least three persons, seven arrested

INDORE: At least three people were injured in a stone-pelting incident during a Hanuman Chalisa recitation at Biroda village on Sunday night.The incident took place around 8.30 pm when miscreants began pelting stones at the prayer pandal.

Police have arrested seven suspects and registered a case against them.Two persons, identified as Prakash Haribhau Lashkari and Vijay Mahajan, suffered head injuries and were taken to the district hospital.

Burhanpur SP Ashutosh Bagri said the situation became tense after the incident but police reached the spot promptly and brought it under control.“Based on Lashkari’s complaint, a case has been filed against six persons and other unidentified people under Sections 296, 115(2), 125, 191(1), 192, 351(3) and 3(5) of the BNS.

Some arrests have been made and further investigation is underway,” Bagri told TOI.He said the trouble started when one Shakil allegedly began pelting stones and others joined him. The incident occurred towards the end of the Hanuman Chalisa recitation.Police clarified that an idol immersion scheduled for Monday due to a lunar eclipse had no link to the incident. A CCTV DVR was seized from the site, and officials said strict action would be taken against those involved.

Police force has been deployed in the village, with regular patrols and drone surveillance to maintain peace.Local MLA Archana Chitnis also visited the police station and urged officials to take strict action against the culprits.SP Bagri confirmed that the situation in the village is now under control and no damage to property was reported.
