Burnley's Owners To Take Over La Liga Club Espanyol

Velocity Sport Limited, owners of Burnley, have agreed to acquire Espanyol, creating a unique investment group with clubs in La Liga and the Premier League.

The owners of Premier League club Burnley, Velocity Sport Limited, have reached an agreement to acquire Espanyol, the La Liga side announced on Monday.

“This deal will allow RC Espanyol and Burnley to be part of the same investment group, expanding its interests with a club in LaLiga and another in the Premier League, while each club will maintain its independence," Espanyol said.

China’s RASTAR Group acquired Espanyol a decade back, overseeing two relegations and promotions, as well as a seventh-place finish in the 2018-19 season.

“RASTAR is not disassociating itself from RCD Espanyol; rather, its shares will become part of this new investment vehicle that will hold stakes in both clubs," Espanyol added.

Espanyol finished 14th in LaLiga last season, just two points ahead of Leganes in 18th, the final relegation spot.
