Buses skip entering Trichy Junction

City buses halting outside the old and main entrance of Trichy Junction railway station

Trichy: Passengers arriving at Trichy Junction railway station wanting to board private and govt buses are forced to walk for a few hundred metres as buses halt outside the station, leading to mismanagement in using spacious areas allotted on the station premises for city bus operations.“TNSTC Trichy failed to ensure that the buses ply inside the station premises. There are two spacious entrances, yet buses drop people in the middle of the road. Authorities are not checking route violations too,” V B Jaganath, a member of Trichy Intra-City Development Endeavours (TIDES), said.Buses halting on roads cause traffic bottlenecks near the Vazhi Vidu Murugan temple. Despite being the top revenue generating station of the railway division, it is not well connected by TNSTC buses. At present, the main entrance is barricaded. The modernised entrance has a linear bay to halt buses. Yet, buses were directed to use the comparatively small second entrance abutting the railway museum. Buses avoid the entrance, allowing auto rickshaws to occupy the zone.Passengers said the railways must consider allowing the main entrance to handle buses and the second for private vehicles, auto rickshaws, and cabs.
