Silchar: The court of additional sessions judge (special judge, POCSO) Narayan Kuri in Cachar sentenced a 24-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the abduction and rape of a minor girl.The convict was pronounced guilty on Monday.The incident took place on June 7, 2024. Taking advantage of the girl’s father being away, the convict allegedly abducted the 14-year-old girl from her home around 8pm.According to the FIR filed by the parents the following day, one of the neighbours and his wife allegedly lured the minor out of her house and handed her over to the convict, who was waiting in an auto rickshaw.
He then drove her to a secluded location near a tea estate, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her twice.The accused spent the night with the minor in the vehicle before dropping her off near her home the next morning and fleeing. While the minor later claimed to be in a relationship with the convict, she said she was unaware he was married.Following the investigation, police filed a chargesheet naming just one accused.
The court found the man guilty under multiple sections, including Section 363 of the IPC (abduction). Under this section, he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000. Failure to pay would lead to an additional one month in jail.Under Section 4 of the Pocso Act, he received a 20-year prison sentence and a fine of Rs. 20,000.
