The Senate of the University of Calicut is scheduled to meet on October 30 to choose its nominee for the search-cum-selection committee that will pick a new Vice-Chancellor (V-C).

Though the Senate on August 23, through a voting, had proposed Dharmaraj Adat, former V-C, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, as its nominee, he declined to take up the job. At another meeting held on September 11, Left-aligned members insisted on a discussion on the reasons that led to Mr. Adat’s decision to keep himself away from the post. Arguments broke out between two groups of members, and the V-C called off the meeting thereafter.

P. Raveendran has been holding full charge of V-C since July 2024 after he was selected to the post by then Governor and Chancellor Arif Mohammed Khan. Mr. Raveendran recently met Mr. Khan’s successor and current Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Thrissur.
