Candolim p’yat seeks sewage treatment plant

Calangute: Candolim sarpanch Blaize Fernandes, at the gram sabha on Sunday, emphasised the need for a new sewage treatment plant (STP) in Candolim, as current facilities are inadequate.

“The Baga STP doesn't accept tankers from Candolim, and the Tonca STP only takes one tanker daily. Consequently, treated sewage is often dumped in fields, causing environmental issues,” he said.Villagers expressed concerns about potential pollution of the Nerul river from the proposed STP and raised issues about construction based on the outline development plan. Fernandes noted that construction matters fall under the town and country planning (TCP) department. Regarding security, Fernandes said that private security wardens are hired because police response is often delayed.
