Jake DeBrusk happens to be one of the major players of the Boston Bruins, who last year saw a big change in his career when he signed with the Vancouver Canucks in free agency. He made this decision after completing seven strong seasons with the Boston Bruins, the team where his NHL journey began.
As per reports, DeBrusk signed a seven-year, $38.5 million deal to join a Canucks team. However, things did not go the way Jake DeBrusk planned them to be. The 2024-25 campaign was overshadowed by a highly publicized rift between star forwards J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, a conflict that hampered the overall performance of the team. Owing to this situation, Canucks’ DeBrusk has finally opened up about J.T.Miller and Elias Pettersson’s rift.
Let’s take a look at what the player has said about the infamous rift.
Jake DeBrusk reflects on the rift between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson
Following the rift between J.T.Miller and Elias Pettersson, Jake DeBrusk has finally reflected on the differences between the two players that reached a breaking point early in the year and was a dark cloud hanging over the team for months. Reports suggest that it was an uncomfortable situation for everyone in the organization and certainly difficult for a player like DeBrusk.
He opened up and shared his opinion with one of the reporters for the Edmonton Journal.
Speaking about the clash, Jake DeBrusk told Jim Matheson, "I have the perfect excuse. I wasn't there that long. I don't know everything... J.T. had me over for dinner a couple of times, and I love him a lot. I was sitting beside Petey in the dressing room, and we hung out a lot. It became a thing where I was almost the middleman," He further added, "In all fairness I wish the best for J.T. and his family; they welcomed me.
For me, it's unfortunate; I wanted to play longer with them, but it's not my decision. Trades happen all the time. Yeah, it was a crazy time." It is to be noted that in late January, the Canucks traded J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers for Filip Chytil, prospect Victor Mancini, and a 2025 first-round pick. They later used that pick in a deal with Pittsburgh to add Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor.
