Carlos Alcaraz has said that his dramatic French Open 2025 victory is yet to fully sink in. Alcaraz is setting himself up for the grass court swing this season but he admitted that he still can’t believe that he saved three championship points against Carlos Sinner At Roland Garros and went on to win in a final that smashed the record for the longest men’s single title clash of all time at the clay court Grand Slam.
“(There are) a lot of videos from that match, from that moment, match point down and I still watch it sometimes, and I still can’t believe that I come back from that moment,” Alcaraz told reporters on Sunday. “So sometimes it’s difficult to realise that I’m in this position, that I won the French Open, watching the videos from 40-love, in that moment. So I’m still watching those videos.”
Alcaraz had been on the rise in the early phases of the match before unforced errors and a seemingly unflappable Sinner’s consistency seemed to put him well behind. However, he had brief good spells in this period as well and finally, seemed to turn it all around when he saved three championship points by breaking Sinner and eventually forcing the match into a fifth set. That turned out to be a see-saw affair and Alcaraz came out on top 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2).
This was Alcaraz’s second consecutive victory in Paris and his fifth Grand Slam title overall. The 22-year-old took a short break after the tournament in Ibiza and now gets back to it at Queen’s Club, where he faces countryman Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in his opener on Tuesday. Alcaraz has won the last two editions of Wimbledon and is now gunning for a third consecutive title at the grass court Grand Slam. The tournament is set to be played from June 30 to July 13.
