Brent Burns has formally retired after an incredible NHL career that lasted close to two decades and made a lasting impression on the community of Carolina Hurricanes. Famous for his signature beard, booming shot, and large personality, Burns was an instant favorite among fans in North Carolina.
Once news broke out, social media was filled with emotional messages of gratitude to him for the memories and motivation.

Since his retirement became official, fans have unanimously expressed how much they appreciated everything Brent Burns brought to the Carolina Hurricanes, both through his play and his presence off the ice.
One fan got it exactly right:
"What a class act. It was always great watching him score goals as a defender.
Sorry to see him go.”
A second fan merely articulated the shared grief, “This one hurts. 😢 Thank you, Burnzie!”

Thanks Burns it been a pleasure watching you in NC.”Drafted by Minnesota and later a star in San Jose before joining Carolina, Burns became known for his approachable personality, charitable work, and passion for the game.As Brent Burns walks away from the game of hockey, he does so with the respect of teammates and hundreds of fans who were impressed by his ability and passion.
