Cary Elwes took to Instagram and shared a post, writing, “Today would have been your 79th birthday. Still hard to believe you’re gone. Missing you so much.” His single-photo upload is a picture of the pair standing together at the 25th anniversary screening and cast reunion of 'The Princess Bride' during the 50th New York Film Festival at Alice Tully Hall on October 2, 2012.Reiner’s smile beamed as he stood beside Elwes, who starred as the lead character named Westley in the 1987 family comedy that followed the fairytale romance between a beautiful young woman (Robin Wright) and her one true love.
When Cary Elwes shared the grief of Rob Reiner’s demise
After news of Rob Reiner and his wife's demise broke last year, Elwes shared his grief via social media on December 29, 2025. In the lengthy post, Elwes described how painful the loss of Rob and Michele was and shared his gratitude for what they brought to the world when they were alive.
“Thank you, Rob and Michele, for sharing your life and art with us,” he added. “Because my heart still aches every time I think of you, I know the grief of losing you too soon will likely never go away.
Sure, death cannot stop true love, but life is pain without you.”
Nick Reiner charged with parents’ murder
Rob and Michelle’s son, Nick Reiner, was arrested the day after his parents were killed, and has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The 32-year-old had previously been open about his mental health challenges and struggles with drugs. According to a PEOPLE report, in 2016, Nick Reiner said that he went to rehab 17 times and experienced homelessness multiple times after refusing to return.
