The Perambra police took two United Democratic Front (UDF) workers into custody and registered a case against one of them for allegedly assaulting policemen at the station.
Youth Congress (YC) State general secretary V.P. Dulkhifil and Youth League district president Mishab Keezhariyur had reportedly gone to the station to meet the UDF workers who were taken into custody on Saturday (November 1, 2025), following the clash at Perambra on October 10. However, the officers reportedly did not permit them to enter the station, which resulted in an altercation. The two policemen who were injured in the melee were hospitalised. A case was registered against Mr. Dulkhifil.
Meanwhile, District Principal Sessions Judge V.S. Bindukumari granted anticipatory bail to 11 UDF activists who had been listed as accused in the clash. The UDF workers who had been in remand custody had also been granted bail.
In the anticipatory bail order, the court criticised the police for carelessness in handling grenades during the clash. M. Sheheer Singh, the defence advocate, claimed that the clash was an after-effect of the alleged police atrocity against Shafi Parambil, MP.
He also informed the court that the Superintendent of Police (Kozhikode Rural) was yet to keep his promise that the policemen who allegedly beat up Mr. Parambil would be identified in 15 days.
