Case filed against Ponda man for rape on pretext of marriage

Colva: Colva police have registered a rape case against Ramesh Chanasappa Hadpad, a Karnataka native living in Ponda, for allegedly sexually exploiting a 28-year-old woman from Delhi on the false promise of marriage.Police said the two worked at the same hotel, where he befriended her in 2024 and allegedly claimed he was unmarried and wanted to start a family, despite being married. Based on this assurance, he allegedly convinced her to enter into a physical relationship, leading to pregnancy. The woman also alleged he took Rs 1.5 lakh from her, claiming it was for marriage arrangements.In her complaint, she said she faced physical and mental harassment and obscene abuse during pregnancy, and that after the child’s birth, he assaulted her, neglected both mother and infant, and later abandoned them.Police said efforts are under way to trace and apprehend Hadpad.
