Case registered after sports event management company’s website hacked

The cybercrime police on Thursday registered an FIR against an unknown person for hacking into the website of a city-based sports event management company for ransom.

Based on the complaint, the police charged the accused under various sections of the IT Act.

According to the complaint, the company received three emails from a person identified as Alex Varma claiming that the company website had been hacked, and he had accessed all the personal and confidential information of the company and threatened to make it public with concocted and fabricated details .

The accused threatened to make the website access public and share the access details on a public platform, demanding ransom.

The company requested the police to prevent the misuse of data theft and take legal action. The cybercrime police are trying to track down the accused based on the IP address.
