The Vanchiyoor police have registered three cases in connection with the clash that broke out between CPI (M) and BJP workers on the day of the local body elections on Tuesday.

BJP workers had accused the CPI (M) of orchestrating bogus voting at a polling station in Vanchiyoor ward.

Two cases were registered based on complaints from BJP activists, while one case was filed against BJP workers for allegedly assaulting a group of transgender people.

BJP leaders alleged that widespread electoral fraud took place in Vanchiyoor, and demanded a re-polling in the ward. The CPI(M), however, dismissed the allegations, and asserted that the transgender people involved in the issue were legitimate voters listed in the ward’s electoral roll.
