Caught On Video: Flash Flood Sweeps Away 9 Family Members During Picnic In Pakistan

A local eyewitness said that the group of people were screaming and crying for two hours for help.

Swat River flash floods in Pakistan turned out to be a nightmare for a family after nine out of 18 members of the group lost their lives. The incident took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, and a horrifying video of the incident is also going viral on social media platforms.

According to Reuters, the family was on a picnic breakfast, taking photos in the water when the flash flood occurred, district administrator Shehzad Mahboob said.

“They went to take some selfies. There was not much water at that time. Suddenly floodwaters came and swept away the children. The water current was so strong that it looked like a dyke had been breached," a relative of the family who did not give his name told Reuters TV.

A video of the incident shared on X shows a group of people stranded on rocks, struggling to stay upright and keep their balance amid the strong waves. News18 cannot independently verify the veracity of the video.

Residents told Reuters that the victims had to wait more than two hours for official rescue services to arrive.

“They had been screaming and crying for two hours for help," said a local and eyewitness, Shiraz Khan.

In the aftermath of the tragic accident, several administrative and rescue service officials have been suspended for negligence.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority later issued an alert saying there were high flood levels and warned people to take precautions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif “expressed his grief over the tourists’ deaths," his office said in a statement.

According to local mayor Shahid Ali Khan, the family group were on a trip to visit the picturesque and mountainous Swat Valley.
