Lucknow: A delegation of the Central Bar Association, Varanasi, met chief minister Yogi Adityanath at the Circuit House to demand the construction of an integrated court complex in Varanasi. The delegation, led by Prem Prakash Gautam, president of the Central Bar Association, Varanasi, raised concerns over the increasing number of lawyers and the lack of adequate infrastructure in the court.
According to the association, many advocates are compelled to work in open spaces due to the shortage of chambers and seating arrangements.Gautam informed the CM that nearly 750 new advocates joined the Central Bar Association in June alone, further increasing the space crunch. The delegation urged the govt to develop an integrated judicial complex under its court infrastructure modernization plan and requested that both the district court and civil court be brought under a single campus.“There are around 9,500 lawyers in the court and the proposed integrated court will have around 8,000 chambers. Each chamber could accommodate two lawyers,” said Gautam. The association also sought air-conditioned chambers, a modern library, a hospital, an improved canteen, parking facilities and other essential amenities. It proposed the use of around 25 acres of vacant land near the Central Jail for the project.
“Taking note of our demands, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district magistrate to submit the complete land records and a detailed proposal to the state govt. He assured the delegation that a model judicial complex equipped with modern facilities would be developed in Varanasi,” added Gautam.
