Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Assistant Director R. Ramesh Chandra on Friday (October 31, 2025) emphasised on the importance of understanding India’s diverse cultures to strengthen unity and improve service to the society.

He was speaking at a programme conducted by the CBC to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on National Unity Day at the Government College of Nursing in Guntur on Friday.

He said after India attained independence, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel led a historic movement to integrate over 565 princely States, thereby laying the foundation for the democratic and united India we see today.

He highlighted that Sardar Patel’s leadership in resolving complex challenges in Junagarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Hyderabad showcased his vision and determination. He said Patel’s pivotal role in creating the All India Services established a robust administrative system that continues to serve as the backbone of the nation’s governance.

He urged the nursing students to study and understand various cultural practices to provide compassionate and inclusive healthcare across India’s diverse population.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Vemuri Vasundhara, Principal of the Government College of Nursing, shed light on the close association between Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru during the freedom struggle. She said that Sardar Patel’s vision, courage, and administrative acumen were instrumental in shaping modern India.
