The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday announced the arrest of a 52-year-old man, 12 years after he murdered his wife in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The accused was identified as Sattar Khan, a driver.

The case was registered locally in April 2022 at the request of UAE authorities. It is alleged that Khan killed his wife on November 14, 2013 while employed in the UAE and fled to India immediately afterwards, remaining untraceable since.

Following the registration of the case, the CBI issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) against him, but he evaded capture for years. Investigators later discovered another passport in his name, leading to the issuance of a fresh LOC. Using a combination of technical leads and human intelligence, Khan was finally traced in Rangareddy district.

A CBI team monitoring the area noted that Khan attempted to flee to Doha via Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), but was apprehended before he could leave the country.

He was produced before a magistrate in Hyderabad and is being brought on transit remand for production before the jurisdictional court in New Delhi.

Further investigation is under way.
