The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Junior Engineer of Naval Officers Family Residential Area (NOFRA), Mumbai, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh.
The accused, identified as DC Pandey, was caught red-handed by the sleuths while accepting the bribe on the basis of a written complaint.
According to the complainant, the engineer had initially demanded Rs 5.5 lakh to clear the pending bills of his firm. However, after negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 4.5 lakh.
Following the complaint, a trap was laid by the CBI and the accused was arrested red-handed on Thursday.
He was produced before the Special Judge, Mumbai, on Friday and was sent to police custody till June 9.
Raids were also conducted at the engineer's residential and office premises in Mumbai and Roorkee. Further investigations are still ongoing.
