BHOPAL: A special CBI court in Jabalpur has sentenced a former Assistant Engineer of LIC to four years of rigorous imprisonment in a 14-year-old bribery case, along with a fine of Rs 10,000. The convict has been identified as Yogesh Arora, who was posted as Assistant Engineer in LIC’s Jabalpur office at the time of the offence.According to officials, agency had registered the case in August 2011 after receiving a complaint that Arora had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor for clearing bills related to electrical maintenance works in LIC offices. The contractor had completed work worth Rs 93,000 and also had pending bills of Rs 35,000–Rs 40,000.A CBI team laid a trap and caught him red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant. After completing investigation, the agency filed a chargesheet in January 2012.Following a prolonged trial, the special CBI judge pronounced the verdict on September 3, 2025, holding the accused guilty of corruption and awarding the prison term.
