A large dried branch snapped off a roadside tree near Ram Mandir Road in Rajajinagar and struck 53-year-old Suresh on his unhelmeted head as he rode his motorcycle on Wednesday evening. The finance company employee is now in critical condition following emergency brain surgery at Manipal Hospital.

CCTV footage captured the moment the branch broke off and hit Suresh, a field employee with a Malleswaram-based private finance company who was out collecting loan repayments around 5 pm. The force of the impact knocked him unconscious and sent him crashing to the ground.

Bystanders rushed to his aid and took him to a nearby hospital in Rajajinagar before he was shifted to Manipal Hospital, where doctors have flagged the first 48 hours as critical.

What Did The CCTV Show?

The clip shows Suresh riding along Ram Mandir Road without a helmet when a large dried branch suddenly snapped off a roadside tree and struck him squarely on the head. He lost control of the motorcycle and collapsed on the road, unconscious, with severe head injuries. The footage has since gone viral, drawing a wave of reactions from road safety advocates.

What Are Locals Saying?

Residents say they had flagged the hazardous trees to the Forest Department multiple times but no action was taken. “The city has many such dried trees that pose a serious threat to motorists and pedestrians. Authorities should identify and remove hazardous branches before more families suffer," one resident said. Officials from the BBMP Forest Department visited the spot after the accident. An NCR has been registered at Rajajinagar Police Station and a preliminary inquiry is underway.

What Is The Internet Saying?

The incident has prompted sharp reactions on X, with users pointing to both civic negligence and the absence of a helmet. “Always wear full face good quality helmets which can save head and jaw… dried tree branches can be absolutely risky… even those Rs. 100 plastic caps won’t help!" wrote @motordave2, who also noted the clip showed several riders using cheap plastic caps, including a child on a scooter without any helmet.

@MihirkJha added: “Always wear helmet: In India, anything can drop on your head or suddenly appear in front of ur bike. This rider is now fighting for his life in coma. Prayers for his recovery."
