New CCTV photos have surfaced in connection with the powerful explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening, which claimed at least eight lives and left several others injured.

The images, exclusively accessed by CNN-News18, are said to be from November 10 at 6.22 pm, and show a man driving a Hyundai i20 car, the same vehicle that later exploded at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort.

According to sources, the man had reportedly gone to Old Delhi Railway Station to drop off a relative before the incident.

Two screengrabs from the CCTV footage clearly capture the driver’s face behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, IANS quoted Delhi Police sources and stated that the i20 car involved in the Red Fort Metro Station explosion was parked three hours before the blast, from 3.19 pm to 6.48 pm.

Following the blast, the Delhi Police registered a case under stringent anti-terror provisions, including Sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with various sections of the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The case was lodged at Kotwali Police Station, news agency ANI quoted officials as confirming late on Monday night.

The explosion occurred around 6.52 pm, when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 stopped at the Subhash Marg red light, close to the Red Fort Metro Station.

The blast damaged several nearby vehicles and injured pedestrians in the area.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking to ANI, confirmed that the explosion occurred inside the parked vehicle and that security agencies had reached the spot within minutes.

“Around 7 pm, a blast took place in a Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort. It injured some pedestrians and damaged nearby vehicles. Preliminary reports suggest some lives have been lost. Within ten minutes of the alert, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch arrived at the scene," he said.

The Home Minister added that multiple possibilities were being examined and that a comprehensive investigation was underway.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that forensic and central agencies, including the NIA and FSL, were assisting in the investigation.

At Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, the Medical Superintendent confirmed that 15 people were brought in, of whom eight were declared dead on arrival, while three remain in critical condition and one is stable.
