The Cement Corporation of India (CCI) management estimated the capital required to revive and modernise its defunct plant in Adilabad, Telangana, to be around ₹2,000 crore.
Once operational, the unit could generate employment for nearly 3,000 people, the top brass of the company said at a review meeting, for the Adilabad facility, held at the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad here on Monday (September 7, 2025).
Chairing the meeting, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu reiterated the State Government’s demand that the Union Government take up revival of the plant. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy as well as he himself had on many occasions appealed to Union Steel and Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for revival of the unit, he said.
The State government will submit its proposals on the revival plan shortly, he said after the CCI management sought details on the same. Telangana Chief Secretary A. Ramakrishna Rao, CCI CMD Sanjay Banga, Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar and senior officials attended the review meeting.
Mr. Sridhar Babu underlined that Adilabad district being a backward region stood to benefit immensely from the revival of the facility. Underlining the significance of such a major industrial unit remaining under the Centre’s control, he opposed any move towards privatization or disinvestment. More than 2,000 acres of high-quality limestone deposits are available in the region, something that will ensure the plant’s viability, the Minister’s office quoted him as saying in a release.
Mines and Geology Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, Mines Director Valluru Kranti, TGIIC MD Shashank Tandur, CCI Plant GM Sharad Kumar, CCI regional manager Umesh Kumar Singh and former Union Minister Venugopalachari, who shared his inputs, attended the meeting.
