Central prison launches tailoring training programme for inmates in Karnataka’s Shivamogga

The Department of Prisons and Correctional Services has launched a tailoring training programme for the inmates of Shivamogga Central Prison here with the support of Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., an apparel manufacturer.

M.S. Santhosh, Senior Civil Judge and member secretary of Shivamogga District Legal Services Authority, inaugurated the tailoring training centre in the central prison on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Santhosh said that the inmates should make opportunities to reform and learn skills to improve their lives. The inmates should be in a position to lead a meaningful life after they complete their term in the prison. The private firm had come forward to give training to the inmates, and it would be a good opportunity to pick up the skill, he said.

Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd. assistant general manager Lakshman Dharmatti said that the firm would train the inmates, and those who picked up the skill would get employment opportunities after the completion of their term in prison. Chief Jail Superintendent P. Ranganath said that 300 inmates would get the training in a phased manner.

Vasanth Kumar Hobalidar of Shivamogga Rotary Club and officials of the central prison were present.
