Higher Education Minister R. Bindu said here on Friday that a Centre for Translation Studies would be set up at the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS), Kalady.
It would be a sub-centre of the Kerala Language Network, one among the seven centres of excellence initiated by the Kerala government, she said in her inaugural address at the launch of the Kerala Institute for Gender Equity at the varsity.
She said the institute, which figured among the seven centres of excellence, had to take the lead in addressing the gaps in gender equity by undertaking research and studies in the field. The Kerala Institute for Gender Equity aims at integrating gender perspectives into policy making, addressing gender inequalities, and sharing research outcomes with institutions and partners across the country. It will focus on advancing interdisciplinary research in gender studies.
The Minister said that the Department of Higher Education had initiated various steps to revise the curriculum by focusing on a student-centric approach. The courses had been designed to enhance the skills of learners. The curriculum for postgraduate courses would be revised as a follow-up of the reforms undertaken at the undergraduate level, she said.
Roji M. John, MLA, and K.K Geethakumary, Vice-Chancellor, were among those who attended the programme.
