Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vivek Yadav conducted a training session for the District  Collectors and District Election Officers (DEOs) on preparations for the ensuing Special Intensive Revision - 2026 (SIR) of electoral rolls through a videoconference on Thursday.

He stated that SIR had already been done eight times from 1951 till 2022, and the last SIR was done more than 21 years ago and explained the need for taking up the SIR now due to frequent migrations, which resulted in voters getting registered at more than one place, non-removal of dead voters, and wrongful inclusion of foreigners.

The CEO explained the key processes of SIR and role of the DEOs in it, and said it was the DEOs’ responsibility to assess the need to identify new polling stations by duly considering the fact that no polling station should have more than 1,200 electors.

Mapping of electors in 2025 electoral rolls with the electors figured in the last SIR roll, i.e., 2002 electoral roll, should be completed immediately. He noted that if the name of a voter or of his / her mother’or father figures in the last SIR voter list, then the extract of that voter list would be treated as a self-sufficient document in itself.

Mr. Vivek Yadav said the Booth-Level Officers (BLO) would be given ID cards, and that the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced a new module, titled ‘Book a Call with BLO’, on its unified web portal i.e., ECINet, which was designed to facilitate resolution of electoral roll-related queries and issues within 48 hours.

He requested the Collectors to acquaint themselves with the process of SIR and conduct comprehensive training to all the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) / Assistant EROs / BLOs / Supervisors, complete the distribution of BLO ID cards in a week, and to ensure that the requests received on ‘Book a Call with BLO’ module were disposed of in the stipulated time.
