The Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Power, will open the mega tender for procurement of 10,900 electric buses for five cities on November 6.

This tender covers five metropolitan cities — Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Surat, which have been allocated 4,500, 2,800, 2,000, 1,000 and 600 PM e-Buses respectively.

According to an official release, the pre-bid phase witnessed robust participation from leading domestic and international manufacturers, and following the issuance of clarifications to the pre-bid queries, the CESL has extended the bid submission deadline to November 6.

It has been stated that the e-Bus initiative is a significant step in driving India’s clean mobility drive that is centered on public transport electrification, which gives substantial economic gains.

Over the last few years, India’s strong policy thrust — through Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles in India (FAME- I & II), the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme, and the PM e-Drive and PM e-Bus Sewa initiatives created a solid framework for sustainable mobility.

Andhra Pradesh was considered as one of the most proactive States with a rich track record for implementing energy efficiency, renewables, e-mobility and energy transition programmes, for which the CESL initiated the preparation of an exclusive action plan for time-bound implementation of the e-mobility programme.

In tune with it, the CESL is focusing on Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Nellore and Tirupati cities for giving the e-mobility program a tangible shape in the near future.
