The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has mounted a sharp attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav following the framing of charges against him, his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, and mother Rabri Devi in the IRCTC scam case. The development has given the BJP an opening to intensify its offensive ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, accusing the Yadav family of corruption and misuse of power over decades.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a blistering attack on Tejashwi Yadav’s political claims, questioning his moral right to talk about transforming Bihar. “Chalein hain Tejaswi Babu Bihar badalne, apne khilaf 420 ka aarop le kar (Tejashwi Babu is talking of changing Bihar with a 420 charge against him)," Prasad remarked, referring to the criminal charges under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC. “What kind of Bihar do you want to make," he asked, alleging that the RJD leadership had a legacy of looting public resources.

Prasad reminded reporters of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s conviction in the fodder scam and subsequent involvement in multiple corruption cases. “Lalu is a convict in the fodder scam. Then came the land-for-jobs scam. Now this IRCTC case. How much greed," he said, accusing the family of treating public office as a means for personal enrichment. The BJP leader claimed that during their time in power, the RJD leadership had “filled their own pockets while sitting in government."

The IRCTC scam pertains to alleged irregularities in the allotment of two railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri when Lalu Prasad was the Union Railway Minister. Investigators allege that prime land parcels were transferred to Lalu’s family through benami transactions in return for lucrative contracts — charges the RJD has consistently denied.

Ravi Shankar Prasad also sought to draw attention to Tejashwi’s early accumulation of assets. “Between 1993 and 2007, Tejashwi had non-agricultural land in nine places and agricultural land in two. Even before he became an adult, he had these lands," Prasad alleged, questioning the sources of wealth.

The BJP’s renewed attack comes at a time when Bihar is moving towards polls. By reviving the corruption narrative against the RJD leadership, the BJP hopes to corner Tejashwi Yadav, who has been positioning himself as the face of a “new Bihar." For the ruling party, the IRCTC case offers both legal and political ammunition — reinforcing its charge that dynastic politics and corruption remain inseparable in the RJD’s brand of governance.
