Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was taken into custody late Thursday night following a dramatic two-day manhunt and a tense standoff that included a suicide threat, law enforcement sources told The New York Post.

Robinson was apprehended approximately 250 miles from Utah Valley University, where the shooting took place. According to officials, the arrest was made possible after Robinson’s father recognised him in images released by law enforcement and confronted him at their home in Southern Utah.

Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest during a press briefing on Friday. “Good morning, ladies and gentlemen—we got him," he said. Cox noted that Robinson confessed his involvement to his father, who then took steps to alert authorities.

Federal law enforcement sources told CBS News that after being confronted, Robinson admitted to being the man in the photos circulated by authorities. When his father urged him to surrender, Robinson reportedly became distraught and threatened to take his own life rather than face arrest.

In response, Robinson’s father contacted a family friend, a youth pastor who also serves as a court security officer, for help. Together, they attempted to de-escalate the situation and contacted the US Marshals Service. The Marshals, in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, arrived at the scene and took Robinson into custody without further incident.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the timeline and arrest during a media appearance on Friday, noting that Robinson was taken into federal custody Thursday night.

Governor Cox emphasised that, based on current intelligence, Robinson appeared to have acted alone. “At this time, there is no indication of any additional suspects," he said. Cox also commended the suspect’s family for their courage in cooperating with law enforcement, stating they “did the right thing."

Earlier in the investigation, two individuals were briefly detained and later released on Wednesday. Authorities have since confirmed they were not connected to the shooting.

Former President Donald Trump also acknowledged the arrest during an appearance on Fox & Friends, saying he had been informed just moments before going on air.
