Chelsea are one of two Premier League sides that will feature at the upcoming edition of the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA slated to begin on the 15th of June.

The Blues boss, Enzo Maresca, opined that the tournament in North America could prove to be a platform for star player Cole Palmer to announce himself to fans in the Americas, with the FIFA World Cup slated to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico a year from now.

“Palmer is up there with the very best top players who can produce something at any moment, create something out of nothing," the Italian said.

“He wasn’t with me on the USA tour last summer, so it will also be a chance for him to experience the environment there and to introduce himself to North America," the 45-year-old said.

Chelsea ended the recently concluded season with the UEFA Europa Conference League with their win over Real Betis in the final of the third-tier continental tournament and became the first club in the world to win all UEFA titles on offer for club sides.

“People were saying that we were not able to win because we’re too young, because we’re not experienced," Maresca recalled.

“Unfortunately for them, they have all been wrong," he said with a smirk.

Maresca also helped Chelsea finish the Premier League fourth with 69 points to their name in the bygone season as they notched up 20 win, 9 defeats and draws each. The Blues thus earned a place in the UEFA Champions League for the upcoming season.

Chelsea were tipped as early favourites for the title, despite the reluctance of the gaffer Maresca to accept the tag of challengers. And the Italian’s fears came true as the Blues slumped towards the end of the calendar year in 2024 as eventual champions Liverpool and runners-up Arsenal went clear of Maresca and Co.
