V. Mohan, diabetologist and chairman of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, has been presented with the inaugural Diabetes Global Impact Prize 2025 by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes during its 61st Annual Conference at Vienna in Austria. He is the first recipient of this prestigious award, which recognised his decades-long contributions to diabetes healthcare, research, education, training, charity, awareness and policy.

Commenting on the recognition, Dr. Mohan said, “This award is not just for me, but for India, my colleagues, students, and patients who have been part of this journey. For over four decades, my mission has been to improve the lives of people with diabetes through research, education, and compassionate care. This strengthens my resolve to continue working towards a world free from diabetes.”

Dr. Mohan’s work includes the ICMR-INDIAB national study, pioneering research in monogenic diabetes, precision medicine, and nutrition, and the Chunampet Rural Diabetes Prevention model, acclaimed by The Lancet. He has published over 1,800 papers, trained thousands of professionals, and conducted over 25,000 free diabetes camps, benefiting millions in India.
