Chennai tragedy: 10-year-old falls while fetching kite; dies after slipping from terrace

CHENNAI: A 10-year-old boy died after he fell from the terrace of a two-storey building in Avadi while trying to retrieve a kite stuck in a tree. ]The boy, who was hospitalized on Sunday, died of head injuries on Monday, police said. The deceased, identified as R Karthik, lived with his parents, Rajkumar, an auto driver, and Emiliammal, along with two siblings in Ramalingapuram. The Class VI student had come to visit his grandmother for the weekend.On Sunday, Karthik and his grandmother went to a prayer house in the neighbourhood. While his grandmother was praying with other members, Karthik and other kids went to play on the terrace. Police said the children were flying kites, and one of the kites got stuck in a tree near the building. When Karthik climbed on the parapet to get the kite, he slipped and fell to the ground. Hearing the loud thud, people rushed out from the house only to find the boy lying in a pool of blood. Karthik was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where he died on Monday.
