Patna: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Sunday described the Chhath festival as a reflection of nature, culture and social unity and extended his best wishes to people across the country.Addressing the nation in the 127th episode of “Mann Ki Baat”, Modi said the entire country was filled with festive joy. “Following Diwali, the Chhath festival is being celebrated. Thekua is being prepared in homes and ghats are being decorated everywhere. The markets are vibrant and a confluence of faith, belongingness and devotion is visible everywhere. The dedication of women observing the Chhath fast is inspiring.
The Chhath festival is a unique reflection of the confluence of unity between nature, culture and society,” he said.The PM extended his greetings to the nation on “kharna”, the ritual that marks the beginning of a 36-hour fast for those observing the Chhath vrat. In his post on X, he paid his respects to all devotees of the Chhath festival dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.“Every section of society stands together on the ghats. This scene is the most beautiful example of India’s social unity.
If you are anywhere in the country or the world, please participate in the Chhath festival if you get the chance. I bow to Chhathi Maiya and wish the countrymen on this great festival,” he said.Referring to the tradition of partaking of “satvik” prasad along with jaggery kheer, the PM prayed that Chhathi Maiya blesses everyone. “Best wishes to all of you on Kharna Puja of the great festival of Chhath. Respectful salutations to all the devotees! On this auspicious occasion, which is a symbol of devotion and restraint, there is a tradition of partaking of satvik prasad along with jaggery kheer.
I wish that Chhathi Maiya showers her blessings on everyone during this ritual,” he said.Modi also urged people, especially the youth, to take part in the ‘Run For Unity’ programmes across the country on Oct 31 to mark Sardar Patel’s 150th Jayanti.He added that a large number of trains and buses were being operated for Bihar residents returning home to celebrate the festival. “In addition to approximately 12,000 trains, AC buses are also being operated,” he said, while sharing two Chhath songs on his X handle.
