Expressing concern over the recent spate of cow deaths in shelters due to space constraints and other issues, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive policy for cow protection. A three-member official committee has been constituted, comprising Special Chief Secretary to the Animal Husbandry Department Sabyasachi Ghosh, Principal Secretary to the Endowments Department Shailaja Ramaiyar, and Secretary of the State Agriculture Department Raghunandan Rao.
The committee will conduct an in-depth study on the establishment of cow shelters (goshalas) and visit other States to study cow protection policies.
Addressing a review meeting at his residence on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy ordered the construction of state-of-the-art cow shelters in four locations across the State. These shelters will be established in Vemulawada, Yadagirigutta, Yenkepally near Hyderabad city, and at the Animal Husbandry University in the first phase.
The Chief Minister suggested that special attention be paid to the protection of calves donated by devotees and instructed officials to establish a cow shelter spanning over 100 acres of land in Vemulawada. He also assured that the State government is willing to spend liberally on cow protection.
State Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretaries V. Seshadri and Srinivasa Raju, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
