Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday inaugurated through videoconferencing, the Kollidam-Chidambaram Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme implemented by the Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department at a cost of ₹255.64 crore.
Implemented with financial assistance under the Amrut 2.0 and Jal Jeevan Mission, the combined water supply scheme will benefit a total of 1,27,566 residents of Chidambaram Municipality, Annamalai Nagar Town Panchayat, Kumaratchi and Parangipettai Panchayat Unions and 36 rural habitations in 10 village panchayats.
The scheme entails water distribution through recharge wells, and a distribution system involving 91.76 km of water supply lines. Through the scheme, drinking water connections have been provided to 4,283 households in Chidambaram Municipality and 1,497 connections in Annamalai Nagar Town Panchayat.
Following directions from the Chief Minister, foundation stone was also laid for an infrastructure upgrade at Veeranam tank in Kattumannarkovil. Costing ₹8.08 crore, the proposed facilities, include an administrative office, ticket counter, children’s playground, parking lot and restrooms.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone through video-conferencing for the construction of a new synthetic track at an estimated cost of ₹14.49 crore at Arignar Anna Sports Stadium in Cuddalore.
