Hundreds of children thronged the Mysuru Zoo and the Dasara Exhibition Grounds on Friday as both venues offered free entry to mark Children’s Day.
Many students arrived in their school uniforms, accompanied by teachers, taking advantage of the zoo’s free entry for children till noon. Long queues were seen in front of the zoo, whose gates opened around 8.30 a.m.
Excitement was evident on the children’s faces as they moved around the enclosures, observing various animals and birds housed in the zoo. The free entry was restricted to children below 12 years of age. Zoo offers free entry to children every year to mark the day.
As in previous years, the Dasara Exhibition Grounds also offered free entry on the occasion. After their zoo visit, many children headed to the exhibition, where they were welcomed with chocolates and flowers. Snacks and oranges were also distributed to mark the celebrations.
Some games at the exhibition were made free for children as part of the special arrangements.
