Panaji: Old Goa police has placed a member of the Chimbel village panchayat under preventive arrest along with five others in an attempt to prevent disturbances in the maintenance of law and order.“The preventive action was initiated at Old Goa for issues arising out of comments on people of other origins and of Goan origin,” police said.Based on a social media post, a complaint was filed against Shankar Naik, panch of Chimbel, for insulting, abusing and threatening a committee member of Revolutionary Goans as well as other members of the party.“To prevent breach of public peace, Shankar Naik is placed under preventive arrest on Tuesday. An inquiry is in progress. There are five more arrested to prevent breach of peace and disturbance of law and order in the area. All six will be produced before a magistrate on Wednesday,” said Old Goa police. tnn
