The Indian began the game in positive fashion as he edged out his opponent in close fashion to seize the advantage early on; however, Chen pegged the Indian back with a win in the second game before closing out the fixture in just over an hour as he breezed past the veteran in the deciding third game.

PV Sindhu and Unnati Hooda are set to take on each other in the women’s singles Round of 16 clash later in the day, while the top-rated Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also progressed to the subsequent rounds following their wins a day earlier.
